Nitmiluk Visitor Centre

Nitmiluk Magic: Walk Through Time & Tradition

This Visitor Centre was designed to celebrate the richness and complexity of the Jawoyn culture using sculpture, illustration and signage. Working closely with the Jawoyn community, The Interpretive Design Company and John Van Der Kolk the entire exhibition is themed on the Jawoyn five seasons calendar.

The entrance to the Visitor Centre welcomes the public with a beautiful stunning Welcome Sign. Inside the Centre there are five grand sculptures which represent Katherine Gorge cliff faces with iconic Jawoyn art motifs, which have been brought to life as huge 3D sculptures morphing out of the gorge walls – all created in-house by The Exhibitionist team.

Step Into the Story

The Build

The stunning Jawoyn motifs were painted by Jawoyn local artists which forms a memorable and respectful space for discovery. The final touch created by The Exhibitionist was a series of small sculptural forms which have been placed on the gorge cliff walls as discoverable and interactive items.

Each sculpture required a small miquette (preliminary model) to be created and presented to the Jawoyn elders for approval before the final sculpture was created.
